Michael Robinson
Cree
Michael Robinson, an accomplished artist and writer, continually explores and rediscovers lost histories and uncertain futures. For Robinson, life exists as a series of complex systems and interrelationships that must be carefully considered. “Dumping in a river is the same as polluting yourself. You can’t constantly pollute yourself and expect to make worthwhile comments on other things.”
John Hoover
Aleut
Born in Cordova, Alaska, in 1919 to an Aleut-Russian mother and a Dutch father, John Hoover worked as a fisherman, taxi driver, musician and sailor. His personal style evolved from his studies with renowned Apache sculptor Allan Houser at the Institute of the American Indian in Santa Fe. By the late 1970’s, Hoover's art was in major museums and exhibition halls as well as the finest collections in the world.
Stan Green
Coast Salish
Born in Mission, BC in 1953, Stan Green's paternal grandfather was Nez Perce, a descendant of the renowned Chief Joseph. Green began making his living as an artist in 1976. He is now a leading carver for the Salish people, credited with numerous major commissions such as totem poles for Japan and a pole for the 1994 Commonwealth Games. He currently resides with his wife and children in the Fraser Valley, B.C.
